Since Walt has started on solids, we’ve had to make the move from the couch towards the dining room table where his highchair resides. This has made mealtime a much more official and formal affair. So, whereas before Ryan and I would watch our favourite download while lazing about the computer (classy!), now we find ourselves eating with napkins and conversation. I won’t lie–I found this a bit daunting. I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to pull together 22 minutes of conversation. (more…)

26 MarWhile it might be truthful to say I brought this dessert to a play-date, if I did say that I’d have to kill myself because I hate the expression, “play-date” with such a fiery passion that it overshadows a truly lovely dessert.
My hate of “play-date” has two origins. First, it seems to be born of the that awful genre referred to as “chick lit.” I supposed I should be pretending that I’ve paid too much for a purse and my chaotic life in New York is glamorously unraveling, all while carting my child around town. (more…)
Dinner Recipe: Crunchy Beet Salad with Pear and Feta

Raw beets used to freak me out. Truthfully, cooked beets used to freak me out too. Now, however, I’ve come around on both fronts. I particularly love the combination of beets and some type of seed (be it pumpkin or sunflower). This salad has some weird pairings, but becomes greater than the sum of its parts.
